Name: Dr. Emmett L. "Doc" Brown
From: Back to the Future

Appearance: Emmett is tall with great big brown eyes and a rather wild mane of silver hair. He is a man of science and therefore dresses accordingly when on the job, but has been known to wear much more subdued clothing while out and about amongst the general public.
Age: 63
Gender: Male
Personality: A versatile man of many talents, Doctor Emmett Brown is rather estranged and eccentric, often even seen by others as flat out crazy. He’s always working on something and tends to tackle his projects with enthusiasm. He is also at times a bit absent-minded and boasts himself as a “student of all sciences.” He tends to speak with a broad vocabulary and tends to even use longer phrases over short ones when describing things. While being a good guy deep down, the Doc isn’t above bending a few rules, or even breaking the law, to get the things he needs to complete a project he’s passionate about. (Bribing police and stealing from Libyan terrorists for example.)
Backstory: In 1955 on November 5th, Emmett Brown slipped on a toilet seat while hanging a clock on the wall and banged his head. While he was unconscious he had a vision of a device, the Flux Capacitor. This device would be the beginning of some of his more elaborate adventures through time. This device is what makes time travel possible.

Over the next thirty years he would work on the device, having one small set back on August 1st 1962, when his mansion would be burnt to the ground and he would have to move to his garage, which existed at its own address not far from his home. (Some say that Dr. Brown deliberately burnt down his home to cash in on the insurance to fund his project.) This set back didn’t last long as he soon resumed his work on the time machine.

Around 1982 Emmett discovered a young boy by the name of Marty McFly had snuck into his laboratory. Having discovered that he wasn’t the mad scientist that everyone claimed him to be, Emmett gave him a part-time job to look after the lab and take care of his dog, Einstein.

Finally in 1985, Doc finished building the time machine into a DeLorean (Hey if you’re going to time travel, why not do it in style, right?). His first test, while a success, was short lived as the Libyan terrorists that he cheated to get the plutonium he needed to power the device, discovered him and killed him in front of his assistant, and friend, Marty. This wasn’t the end for Dr. Brown however, as Marty traveled to the past using his machine and worked with the Emmett Brown of 1955 to not only save his own future, but save the Doc from dying.

While Emmett fiercely against Marty telling him about the future, the young boy slipped a letter into his pocket while preparing for the night of the lightning storm. Furious about the letter at first, Emmett tore it apart and threw the pieces away, telling Marty that the future was what it was, and they that couldn’t risk altering it any more than it was already. Eventually his own curiosity about it made him piece the letter back together and read it, thus preventing his death in the future by wearing a bullet proof vest to his experiment that night.

Alive and well in 1985, Emmett packs his things and takes off for the future where he gives the DeLorean a hover-conversion as well as getting a rejuvenation overhaul done to himself, adding 30 to 40 years to his own life and “making himself look younger” as well. Together with Marty the two venture into the future to try and prevent Marty’s future son, Marty Jr., from going to prison. While successful in preventing incident from happening, their presence in the future doesn’t go unnoticed, as Biff Tannen steals the time machine and takes a sports almanac that Marty had intended to use in the past to his past self, thus creating an alternate timeline where Biff becomes rich and controls all of Hillsdale. The experience was enough to convince the Doc of how time travel could be abused and put it in his mind to destroy the time machine after the two fixed the timeline.

The two went back to 1955 together, Marty going off to find the Almanac while the Doc stayed behind to fix the time circuit which was short circuiting and kept resetting the Destination to January 1st, 1885. Ultimately Marty was able to succeed in getting the almanac and destroying it, however Doc was flying in the DeLorean when the lightning storm rolled into Hillsdale, and a stray bolt of lightning struck the car, triggering the time circuits and sending Doc back in time to 1885.

Moral Standing: Chaotic Good

Dreams: Emmett's dreams seem to drift from one project to the next, but the ultimate goal appears to be the same overall, a better future for man, and for his friends.

Fears: His projects being abused and used for nefarious schemes, and Lightning.

Extra: Doc really is a Jack of All Trades, and likes to keep busy. There isn’t really a time when he isn’t working on, or fixing, something for someone.

Character Location: The Docs Garage. While large, Emmett still manages to make the place incredibly cluttered with all of his inventions (or scale models), a large number of clocks, a television set, and an automatic dog feeder. It doubles as a workspace and living quarters for himself.
Samples: A few clips of Doc at his best

Writing Sample: A dear_mun post by the Doc.

And have a ficlet while we're on the subject.
